General Information
Q: What is the GEL Program?
A: The Guelph Engineering Leadership (GEL) Program is a co-curricular initiative launched in 2020 to help engineering students develop leadership skills beyond technical expertise and to embody leadership in their professional identity. It focuses on inclusivity, peer-driven engagement, and fostering leadership values grounded in ethics, communication, teamwork, and societal impact.
Q: Who can participate in GEL?
A: The program is open to both undergraduate (BEng) and graduate (MEng or MASc) students, making it accessible to a broad range of engineering students.
Enrollment & Logistics
Q: How do I sign up?
A: You register via the Eventbrite link available under the “Registration” tab on the GEL site or REGISTER HERE.
Q: What happens after I attend a workshop?
A. You will receive a feedback form by email. It must be completed within one week of the workshop to count toward your certificate.
Q: How and when do I receive the Certificate?
A: Once completed, your certificate will be issued by the College of Engineering or the GEL Program coordinators.

Workshops & Participation
Q: Is there any cost to participate?
A: No, workshops are free of charge for participating students.
Q: Are the workshop times flexible?
A: Yes. Most workshops are offered twice, at different times or days, so you can choose the session that fits your schedule.
Q: How many workshops must I attend to receive a certificate?
A: You must attend at least 4 workshops and complete the associated feedback forms to earn the Certificate of Achievement from the College of Engineering.
Q: What topics do the workshops cover?
A: Recent workshop topics include: Indigenous Ways of Knowing, Exploring Personal Goals and Values, Empowering Women in Engineering, Developing Cultural Intelligence, AI Ethics, Change Management
